A Note to Spring Semester Volunteers

Dear Spring Semester Volunteers,

How are you all doing? I hope everyone had a great holiday break and New Year!

Thank you all for volunteering this past semester at Beacon. This fall, over 25 volunteers committed their time to help serve 500 children, youth and non-English speaking adults in the local community. We provided homework assistance, enrichment activities, ESL classes, and a safe space for middle and high school age youth to hang out. We served close to 400 people at our Thanksgiving Dinner, hosted 7 holiday parties for Beacon youth all in one week, and gave away 13 brand new bikes as well as countless presents this holiday. The Chinatown Beacon Center would not be able to do as much as it does without the dedication and hard work of volunteers such as yourself.

Also, I want to thank the folks who came to the volunteer appreciation dinner. You guys killed the lasagna. At least we know Beacon folks can put it away!!!!

Our Center programs at Gordon J. Lau Elementary School start up again on January 10th and ACE (After-School Community Enrichment) programs began this week. The only paperwork that we need from you guys is a renewed volunteer contract for the Spring, which is included in this email. If you could email or fax that back to the office, that would be great. The new schedule for Center programs as well as times for ACE are listed below. If there are any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me or the ACE supervisors you work with.

Best,

Rui Bing
Program Support Coordinator

PS: We are looking for a volunteer to lead the “Let’s Talk” on Tuesday nights and possibly some Thursdays. Please let me know if you or any of your bilingual Chinese-speaking friends would be interested.
