Jean Parker Elementary School After School Community Enrichment

The purpose of the Jean Parker Elementary School After School Community Enrichment (ACE) program is to expose children to activities that they may not have the opportunity of experiencing in their daytime classes. This enrichment is done with the hope that these new experiences will not only inspire them to continue with the activities on their own, but also that these activities will help them with their school work and academic learning.
The participants of the program start the day with 20 minutes of free recess followed by a 20 minute period where students receive their fre snack. Participants then have an hour for homework. After homework, the participants have enrichment. Enrichment includes: cooking, science, arts, crafts, Junior Acheivement, and SPARK (an inclusive physical activities program), just to name a few. Jean Parker ACe also collaborates with the ACE participants of John yehall Chin Elementary in a weekly event called "Thrilling Thursdays." This weekly event gives participants an opportunity to make new friends during their workshops. This year we offer Nutritious Cooking, Japanese, Sports, and Yoga.
The Jean Parker ACE is for third through fifth grade Jean Parker students. The program is located at Jean Parker Elementary School in the multipurpose room. The program starts at 2:40p.m. and pick up goes from 5:20p.m. to 5:40p.m. This year the program started on September 12, 2005 and will end on June 9, 2006.
Frequently Asked Questions
When was your program first started?
This is the sixth year of ACE at Jean Parker.
What are some of your program’s challenges and successes?
Some of the challenges at Jean Parker have been space issues since we are all in the multipurpose room and have limited designated "ACE" space. Despite these challenges, the program runs smoothly. The students are always willing to participate in activities. Some of their favorite activities have been: cooking (for the food), SPARK (so they can let their goofy sides out), and sports (they are very competitive).
